BEAUMONT, Texas – It has been an odd stretch for the Lamar University baseball team over the course of the past two weeks. During that stretch, the Cardinals have added to their impressive non-conference resume with wins at TCU and Houston but have dropped two of three in their last two conference series. The Cardinals will look to turn things around Friday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana.
Winners in four of their last six games, the Cardinals enter the weekend with a 22-18 (.550) overall record and a 6-9 (.400) mark in the Southland standings currently eighth overall, but just 1.5 games back of Houston Christian (who the Cardinals close the regular season against), and 1.5 up on SLU.
The past two weeks have been just as big of a roller coaster for SLU as it has been for the Cards. After being swept by New Orleans, the Lions responded by defeating No. 28 UL Lafayette in Hammond, only to host McNeese and drop two of three to the Cowboys. Over the course of the past six games, the Lions have rotated wins and losses.
The all-time series, which dates back to the 1981 season, has been closely contested with the Cardinals holding a slight one-game advantage (43-42) in the series, but it will be the first meeting between the two since the 2021 season. Oddly, the Cardinals have fared better in the series on the road. Big Red is 19-18 (.514) all-time in Hammond.
All three games of the series will be televised on ESPN+, with Friday's game slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's game is slated for 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start Sunday. All three game will be played on Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
