BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners in six of their last seven, the Lamar University women's tennis team will looking to continue its current hot streak as they prepare for a tough two-match road swing. The Cardinals open the two matches away from Beaumont Friday when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State, followed by a trip to Southeastern Louisiana (Tuesday, April 4).
The Cardinals (9-6) jumped out to a strong start in conference play when they rallied from an early deficit to beat Nicholls, 4-3, in their opener.
Northwestern State heads into the Friday contest looking to get back in the league race. After a strong start to the season, the Demons (8-7/0-2 SLC) have fallen on some hard times recently losing their first two league matches and three of their last four overall. With that being said, the Demons were in the unenviable task of starting the year with conference matches on the road and both contests came down to the wire.
The Demons hold the advantage in the series which dates back to the 1993 season. Northwestern State is 17-12 all-time against the Cards, including a 7-5 record in Beaumont. The Demons have won four of the last five meetings in the series.
Friday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.
