BEAUMONT, Texas – As Lamar University prepares to start the second half of its season, Mother Nature has forced a slight change to the Cardinals upcoming schedule. Lamar (8-6/0-0 SLC) has been forced to move up both its matches this week due to the threat of inclement weather. The Cardinals will now host Nicholls Thursday at 3 p.m. and then face New Orleans for Senior Day on Sunday, April 16th, with both matches taking place at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.
The Cardinals enter league play in the midst of their best stretch of the season. Big Red has won five of its last six with the lone loss during that stretch a 6-1 setback at Houston that saw the Cardinals pick up victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. Lamar also pushed two other matches to a third set and had a chance to pull within a point of the Cougars.
Nicholls is 9-7 (.562) on the season and has already opened conference play with a 4-3 victory over New Orleans. The Colonels have now won their last three matches.
The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 18-7 (.720), which dates back to the 1993 season. After dropping the first four matches played between the two schools, the Cardinals have taken 18 of the last 21 meetings with a 9-4 (.692) mark in Beaumont.
