Cardinals Open Five-Game Home Stretch

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – After a tough road swing through the state of Missouri, the Lamar University Cardinals (13-6) return to the friendly confines of Vincent-Beck Stadium for a five-game stretch that will include the start of Southland Conference play as Texas Southern (Tuesday), New Orleans (Friday – Sunday) and Rice (Tuesday, Mar. 28th) come to town.

The Cardinals return home looking to put an end to a small three-game slide, which is the team's longest skid of the season, after dropping close games at Missouri and St. Louis.

Tuesday's opponent, Texas Southern, is off to a strong start as well having already opened league play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Tigers are 16-7 (.696) and have won nine straight before having that streak snapped with a 5-0 loss in the third game of their conference-opening series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Tigers enter the new week hitting .331 as a team with 24 home runs, 45 doubles and 170 RBIs, while their pitching staff has posted a 4.92 earned run average while holding opponents to a .247 batting average.

Big Red is batting .261 as a team with 16 home runs, 37 doubles and 95 RBIs on the season. The Cardinals also bring one of the league's top pitching staffs into the contest. As a team the Cardinals have posted a 3.61 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and are holding opponents to a .219 opponent's batting average.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series over TSU, 26-4 (.867), with a 21-4 (.840) record in Beaumont. Lamar has won three of the last four meetings between the two with the last LU loss coming during the 2018 season.

Tuesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and will serve as the team's final tune-up before the start of SLC play when the New Orleans Privateers come to town over the weekend. Tuesday's first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
