Cardinals Travel to SFA, Host UT Rio Grande Valley

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team faces a home-and-away schedule this weekend as they travel to Nacogdoches to face former Southland Conference opponent Stephen F. Austin Saturday, before returning home to host UT Rio Grande Valley the following day.

The Cardinals (1-4) will look to put a stop to a minor two-match slide when they travel to face SFA. Big Red has already played a tough non-conference schedule with matches at Rice and North Texas, while hosting DePaul, Sam Houston and UTSA.

The Ladyjacks are 2-1 entering the week with victories over Jackson State and UT Tyler while dropping a match at Louisiana Tech. Saturday's match will mark the second home contest of the season for SFA.

The Cardinals hold a 20-8 (.714) record in the series but are just a match over .500 (7-6) all-time in Nacogdoches. Big Red has won five straight and seven of the last nine in the series. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.

Before the Cardinals step on the court for their next home match, Mother Nature has already forced a slight change in schedule for Sunday. The match which was originally slated for an 11 a.m. start has now been pushed to 1 p.m. due to the expected weather in the area.

Sunday's contest will be just the third of the season for the Vaqueros. UTRGV heads to Beaumont looking for their first win of the season after dropping contests to Baylor and Houston.

Conference opponents for one season (2022 in the WAC), LU leads the all-time series, 18-7 (.720). That record includes an 11-4 (.733) record in Beaumont.
