LU Student-Athletes Set Standard for Graduation Success Rate

| By:
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lamar University student-athletes continue to set the standard in the classroom posting a school-record 81-percent graduation success rate (GSR), beating the old mark of 80 percent (which was recorded last season), announced the NCAA Wednesday afternoon. Due to the Cardinals' success in the classroom, Lamar is eligible for Academic Based Revenue Distribution.

"The goal for our student-athletes is for them to be champions in competition, in the classroom and in life," said LU Director of Athletics Jeff O'Malley. "I couldn't be prouder of the hard work that our young men and women are doing in all three phases. There is a lot of work that takes place behind the scenes for this to happen. I want to thank our coaches, in addition to our support staff that works so diligently to help our students achieve their academic goals."

The Cardinals' 81-percent GSR is the highest for the university since the NCAA started reporting graduation success rates in 2004-05.

In addition to Lamar's overall success rate, nine teams have reported a rate of 80 percent, including five above 90. Those numbers include soccer and women's tennis which have a perfect 100.

Lamar's baseball and men's basketball teams each recorded a rate of 92 percent (or better), while the women's basketball team posted a 93 percent rate.
