BEAUMONT, Texas – Asta Miettinen has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and play tennis at Lamar University announced head coach David Wong Wednesday afternoon.
 
Miettinen comes to the Golden Triangle as one of the top young singles and doubles players in Finland. She brings with her a No. 14 national ranking in singles competition and a top-10 rank in doubles play.
 
"Asta is a very talented young player," said Wong. "She is already a very physical player but brings a strong mental aspect to her game as well. She has had a ton of success in both singles and doubles to this point in her career. Asta is a strong, talented addition to our program."
 
Miettinen's success on the court comes as a surprise to no one after climbing as high as No. 3 on the Finnish Junior Tour, and No. 8 in the Finnish junior rankings. She has also won several ITF doubles titles during her junior career.
