Former Conference Foes Renew Rivalry

| By:

Coming off a tough loss at SMU, where Lamar University (1-1) kept it close right down to the final horn before falling, the Cardinals now turn their attention to a former league foe in UTSA. The Roadrunners are 1-1 after a thrilling season-opener. UTSA defeated Western Illinois, 76-68 in overtime Monday evening, before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn, to take on the University of Minnesota. Both teams enter the contest looking to move back above the .500 mark.

Former Southland Conference foes, Lamar and UTSA have met on the court 36 times in series history - a history which began during the 1981-82 season. The Cardinals hold a slim 19-17 (.528) advantage in the series, which includes a 9-5 (.643) record in Beaumont. UTSA has won each of the past three meetings, which have been played in San Antonio. Tuesday's meeting will be the first game played in Beaumont since the 2016-17 campaign.

The Cardinals have had a balanced offensive attack in their first two games of the 2023-24 season. In the season opener, Big Red had four players in double-figures and a total of seven players who scored at least eight points in the game. After taking a step up in competition Thursday at SMU, Big Red finished the game with two different players in double figures and a total of six players who scored at least eight points in the game.

Tuesday's game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. It will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
