Alaniz Collects Southland Defensive Player Weekly Honor

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Southland Conference recognized Arely Alaniz on Tuesday, naming her as the conference's final Defensive Player of the Week honor for the 2023 season.

Last Friday night, Alaniz assisted on Hollie Massey's game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. That win combined with other results from Sunday helped LU clinch their second straight regular season conference title and fourth all-time in program history, as well as the number one seed in the upcoming conference tournament. In addition, Alaniz helped set a school record for most shutouts in a season as that was the team's 11th of the year.

To this point, Alaniz has scored one goal and dished out three assists this season for the Cardinals while starting all 17 games played. The reigning SLC Defender of the Year already earned a Defensive Player of the Week award from the conference earlier on September 19th. This Friday night, Alaniz and Big Red will take on Southeastern at 7:00 pm.
