HAMMOND, La. – Lamar University continues its two-game trek through Southern Louisiana Saturday when they step on the court at the University Center to take on Southeastern Louisiana. Big Red enters the contest looking to put a disappointing setback at New Orleans behind them and put an end to a six-game slide, as well as start climbing up the Southland Conference ladder.
The Cardinals (4-11/0-2 SLC) are one of three league schools looking for their first Southland win (Northwestern State and UIW).
Big Red will square off against Southeastern Louisiana squad (7-8/1-1 SLC) that picked up its first league victory Thursday over Houston Christian. The Lions are currently tied for fourth in the conference standings, while Big Red is currently tied for eighth.
The Cardinals bring one of the nation's top scoring threats into the game in freshman
Nate Calmese. The Arizona native is currently third in the league in scoring and is the nation's fifth-leading freshman scorer. He is coming off a 27-point outing Thursday at New Orleans.
SLU averages nearly 76 points per game led behind Boogie Anderson (12.4 ppg) and Christian Agnew's (10.7 ppg) double-figure efforts offensively. Where the Lions have run into problems at times has been on the defensive end of the court where they are also surrendering nearly 76 points per game to opponents.
The Cardinals lead the all-time series between the two schools with Big Red holding a 28-23 (.549) advantage, but LU has struggled on the road. The Cards are 8-13 (.381) all-time in games played in Hammond. The Cardinals have won four of the last six contests but are looking to snap a four-game slide at Southeastern (dating back to the 2011-12 season).
Saturday's game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. from the University Center and will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
