TF CENTRAL: Robert Platt Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - After a solid opening performance in the 2023 indoor season, Lamar University's track and field teams will make their second straight trip to the University of Houston campus. They will compete in the Robert Platt Invitational, which will take place at the Yeoman Fieldhouse this Friday.

Last week, the Cardinals recorded 28 top 10 finishes with three second place finishes standing out. Yasmin Austridge set a new PR by clocking in 9:53.73, which was ninth all-time in program history. In his first ever collegiate event, Miles Jones took second in the high jump at 2.00m. Kenson Tate leapt into second place in the long jump 7.48m.

Steven Jones also set a PR in the 60m prelims by qualifying for the finals at 6.90, which was the fourth best time in program history in the event. He later finished eighth in the finals at 6.92 seconds.

In other events, Eli Peveto (4:26.01) and Jonathan Rivera (8:38.83) each had fourth place finishes in the mile and 3000m respectively while fellow freshmen (15.75m) and Alex Williams (15.10m) each debuted in the weight throw and took third and sixth respectively.

The field events will start at 2:00 p.m., while the running events will begin at 3:30 p.m. Along with LU and UH, the teams that will be competing in the meet are Central Arkansas, Houston Christian, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, St. Thomas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, UTRGV, and UTSA.
