| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team will open its fall season Friday when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to open the Islander Open, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The three-day, six-team tournament will begin Friday and hold the championship matches Sunday morning. The tournament field will include LU, host A&M-Corpus Christi, Sam Houston, UTSA, Tyler JC and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The season-opening tournament will follow the tradition individual match format as players will be separated into different flights.

The Islander Open is one of six fall tournaments on the docket in 2022. Big Red will also compete in the ITA Regional Championships, the All-American Tournament, Joe Pyburn Memorial Tournament (the Cardinals' lone home tournament during the fall), A&M-Corpus Christi Open and the Sam Houston Invitational.

LU's spring season will open up Jan. 20th at home against DePaul.

The Cardinals enter the new season, in a new conference, looking to build off a 10-11 (.476) overall record last season with a  1-4 (.200) mark in WAC matches.

The heart of Big Red's roster will be juniors led by a trio of talented athletes. That list includes Ana Jolic (5-6, Jr., Kikinda, Serbia), Elena Rubio (5-7, Jr., Madrid, Spain) and Jayci Wong (5-5, Jr., Nederland, Texas).
