CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Lamar University finished off a strong second day of competition at the Islander Opener Saturday afternoon, highlighted by three players advancing to the championship round of their singles draw –
Noelia Lorca (Red Bracket),
Elena Rubio (Green Bracket) and Megan Do (Orange Bracket).
Sophomore
Elena Rubio faced off against A&M-Corpus Christi's Anais Brion and posted a straight-sets victory. Rubio recorded a 6-4, 6-1, decision to advance to the championship match. In similar fashion
Noelia Lorca ousted Palina Saulevich, 6-0, 6-3, in straight sets.
Nederland freshman Megan Do closed out the day by posting a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Johanna Winkler to become the third Cardinal to advance to the finals.
