BEAUMONT, Texas – The future of the Lamar University women's tennis team continues to get stronger with the addition of Saloni Tamang (Kathmandu, Nepal) announced LU head coach
David Wong Tuesday afternoon. Tamang becomes the fourth individual to sign with the Cardinals joining Emma Shasteen (Floda, Sweden) in the fall, Megan Do (Nederland, Texas) and Femke Tjon-A-Joe (Western Michigan transfer).
"I'm very excited to be making this announcement today," said Wong. "Saloni is one of the top junior players in Nepal. She is a high-quality athlete with a high upside. Her game has a very controlled swing, and the sky is the limit for what she can do on the court. I'm very excited to see what she is going to accomplish during her career."
Tamang won the ITF Girls' U-18 World Ranking Tennis Tour J-5 Circuit last year by posting a three-set victory over countrywoman Sarbhani Shrestha. She also won the Skirt-1 title the year before.
Last year's ITF U-18 title is just one of many that was added to a growing list of accomplishments for the native of Kathmandu. A versatile athlete who also excels on the doubles courts, she has also been a part of a Kesha Group ANLTA Nepal Asian 14 doubles championships.
