Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Lamar University stepped away from conference play Sunday to travel to the Alamo City and take on San Antonio, but it was the homestanding Roadrunners who escaped with a one-point victory, 4-3, over the Cardinals.
The Cards jumped out to an early lead winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 3 singles. The duo of
Elena Tairyan and
Noelia Lorca got a 6-4 victory on court No. 1 followed by
Alba Perez and
Elena Rubio with an identical score at No. 3.
The Cardinals followed suit with singles wins from Perez (No. 4) and
Emmeline Polevoi (No. 6). Perez defeated Stanislava Bobrovnikova, 6-4, 6-4, in straight sets, while Polevoi picked up a victory when her opponent was forced to default due to injury.
Lorca picked up an opening set victory at line three singles before UTSA's Alexandra Weir battled back to win the second set. Weir managed to finish the match in the third for the overall team win.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday when they travel to Lake Charles, La., to face McNeese. A start time has not yet been decided on for the match.
