Cardinals Fall at Sam Houston

| By:
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Lamar University returned to the McAdams Tennis Center Sunday afternoon for their second match of the WAC Pod tournament in Huntsville. Big Red was looking to bounce back from a tough one-point loss Saturday afternoon, but the Bearkats – playing in front of their home fans – had just enough to hold on for another close victory, 5-2.

The doubles point played out similarly to Saturday's match, as LU's opponent picked up the first two wins in close battles with the final court tied when the match was halted.

The victory in doubles gave Sam Houston the momentum and they would not relinquish it as five of the six singles matches went to a third set, and three courts had one set go to a tiebreak. Unfortunately, SHSU recorded victories on the first three singles courts to finish to take the overall match before the Cardinals (7-8/0-2 WAC) got on the scoreboard.

The Cardinals responded with Elena Tairyan's victory at No. 1 singles, followed by Emmeline Polevoi's victory on court five. The Bearkats closed out the match taking the victory on court No. 2.

LU will look to get back in the win column Wednesday when they return home to host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader. The first match is slated to begin at 9 a.m. followed by the second at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
