Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University battled through an injury-plagued roster and cold temperatures to face a very tough New Mexico squad Saturday afternoon, but in the end it was too much as the Lobos walked away with a 4-0 victory.
The Cardinals put up a strong fight and had their chances to take the doubles point but came up just short falling by identical 6-4 scores on courts 2 and 3. With a 1-0 lead, the Lobos held their momentum early in singles.
UNM added to its lead with a straight sets victory at line 3 singles to take a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Cardinals couldn't stop the run as New Mexico closed out the match by picking up wins on the final two courts. The match was stopped after the fourth and deciding point was scored.
The Cardinals return to action Monday when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The game against the Islanders will begin at noon from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
