BEAUMONT, Texas - Unable to come out of the gates strong, Lamar University was never able to grab the lead as it dropped a third-straight home game falling to Sam Houston, 66-57. LU ends their recent home stand at 1-3.

LU shot 37.5% from the field, which included just one three-pointer all game long.
Akasha Davis would make three field goals, but thanks to seven free throws, she finished as the leading scorer for LU with 13.
Angel Hastings scored 10 points in her first start of the season.

The first part of the first quarter was evenly matched as the Bearkats took an 8-6 lead. But then, SHSU would take control with an 8-2 run to end the first quarter up 16-8. LU shot 25% from the field in the quarter with only three field goals made.

Sam Houston's run extended to 12-2 as they would put themselves up 20-8. Hastings and Davis would combine for eight points while
Emma Imevbore got on the board with a bucket that brought the score to 25-19.
NJ Weems' free throws with 1:45 left saw LU pull as close as close as five (27-22), but the Bearkats had an answer with seven of the final nine points for a 33-24 edge at the break.

The third quarter would see LU shoot a game low 20% from the field as they converted just two baskets despite putting up 14 points. SHSU's lead reached 16 points on three different occasions with the last one being 50-34. Davis was able to get six points in the quarter, but her effort only brought LU within 52-38 after three.

The fourth quarter would see LU get 19 points, which was more than the 16 put up by SHSU but the Cardinals would only cut the margin to single digits at the end of the game. Some of LU's role players would get chances to score including
Portia Adams,
Bebe Galloway, and
NJ Weems. But as the clock ran out, LU couldn't stop the six-game winning streak by SHSU.

LU hits the road this Saturday for a showdown with the conference's only undefeated team in Stephen F. Austin. The tipoff will be at 2:00 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Â
