BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team strengthened its future with a top international signee. Martina Alcaino has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and play tennis for Lamar University announced head coach
David Wong Wednesday morning.
"A former player here pointed us in the direction of Martina, and that is how her recruitment started for us," said Wong. "I believe when all is said and done her signing will go down as the biggest steal in this entire class. Martina is an under-the-radar player with an extreme upside and I look forward to coaching her over the next four years."
The top-rated junior player in her home country of Chile, Alcaino comes to Beaumont having just won the Chilean National tournament. A top-10 overall player in Chile, she brings with her a No. 8 overall national ranking in her home country.
