COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Opening up their first track meet of the 2022 year, Lamar University competed at the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M University. Behind a solid effort, LU came away with several top 10 finishes.
The highest result of the meet for LU went to
George Wheeler, who for the second meet in a row earned victory at the 3,000m posting a time of 8:11.19. Another stand out performance came from a pair of top five finishes by
Kenson Tate. He finished fourth in the men's long jump at 7.09m while clocking second in the 200m for a time of 21.73.
The field events would see solid performances all around. But it was
Elijah Jackson and
Arajanee Jackson that would have the best results of the day for LU. Elijah claimed second in the high jump recording 1.94m while Arajanee took third overall in the women's triple jump.
Briana Howard opened things on the track circuit by up competing in the women's 60m. She qualified for the finals with a second place time of 7.81 in her heat before coming in seventh in the finals at 7.95. Despite finishing fourth in her 60m heat at 7.96, Sydne Porter would win her 200m heat posting a 25.40 time that was good for fourth overall.
The 400 meter women's event would have a big performance from
Faith Outing as she won her heat with a time of 56.54, which was enough for second place trailing the overall winner by .28 seconds. The men's side featured both
Jaylon Roberts (49.02) and
Webster Slaughter (48.58) claiming first in their heats before earning fourth and seventh respectively in the finals.
In the men's 800m,
Cameron Chretien crossed the line at 2:00.96, which not only won his heat, but gave him sixth overall.
Brandon Lantau took part in the one-mile event and was also sixth overall crossing the line at 4:21.58.
The women's relay teams also finished in second place in their events. The women's DMR posted a time of 12:21.60 while the 4x400m relay (3:55.93) came just .29 seconds from the overall winner. The men's 4x400m relay team finished fifth at 3:20.11.
LU will next run at the University of Houston for the second time this season on January 29th.
