BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team will host the Joe Pyburn Memorial Tournament – their second competition – of the fall season beginning Friday. The Joe Pyburn Tournament will be a three-day, three-team tournament that will run through Sunday at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Courts.
The three-team field will include host-LU, Sam Houston and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Play is set to get under way Friday at 3 p.m. with the doubles competition. The team will return to the court Saturday (9 a.m.) for two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The tournament concludes Sunday – beginning at 9 a.m. – with the finals of both singles and doubles play.
The tournament – which is an individual format tournament – is to honor life of Joseph Foster Pyburn, son of Ryan and Amy Pyburn, who passed away this summer at the tender age of three just prior to fourth birthday.
