LU Women Prepare for Islanders

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team is two matches in to a five-match conference road swing to wrap up the 2021 regular season. The third match of that swing is Saturday when the Cardinals travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Cardinals (7-5/4-3 SLC) enter the weekend currently sixth in the Southland standings just a half game back of Abilene Christian, and just a 1.5 games back of fourth place Central Arkansas. Unfortunately, Big Red has had one league match postponed (vs. UIW) due to positive COVID results within the UIW program, and that match has not yet been rescheduled.

The league standings are jampacked ahead of LU, but the same can be said of the teams chasing the Cardinals. Big Red sits just a half game up on Northwestern State.

A&M-Corpus Christi enters the weekend showdown trying to catch the conference leaders – Sam Houston. While the Bearkats remain the league's only undefeated squad, the Islanders (15-2/5-1 SLC) are just 1.5 games off the pace. The Islanders have won seven of their last eight matches but are coming off a one-point loss at Central Arkansas.

The all-time series between the two schools has been fairly even with A&M-Corpus Christi holding a slight advantage. The Islanders lead the series, 11-10 (.524), a record that includes a 3-6 (.333) mark in Corpus Christi.

Saturday's match is slated to begin at noon from the Henry Tennis Center.
