LU Women Fall to League Leaders

| By:
Box Score NEW ORLEANS, Texas – Lamar University jumped out to an early lead over the Southland Conference co-leaders Sunday afternoon, but New Orleans rallied for a 5-2 victory.

The Cardinals got out to a strong start with victories on courts 1 and 2 doubles to take an early one-point lead. The duo of senior Bianca Vitale and freshman Alba Perez picked up the first win of the day (on court one) followed by junior Natalia Garcia Molina and freshman Elena Rodriguez's victory at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles was halted but it was deadlocked in a 5-5 when LU won the point.

The Privateers answered with the first two singles matches to take their first lead of the day, 2-1, with victories at Nos. 5 and 4 singles, respectively. Perez halted the Privateers momentum momentarily with her victory at No. 3 singles. Perez squared off against Tristanne Dechoux and picked up the 7-5, 6-3, victory in straight sets.

Unfortunately, UNO picked up wins on the three remaining courts for the final score.

The Cardinals will close out the regular season Wednesday, April 14th, when the return home to host Houston at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The match against the Cougars – which has been postponed twice already this year – will begin at 1 p.m.
