BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University returns to action, and will close out the home portion of its schedule, Monday when it hosts Stephen F. Austin on Senior Day. The match – which was originally scheduled to be played Sunday – was moved to Monday afternoon, and will begin at 1 p.m. with the recognition of seniors taking place at 12:30 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (6-3/3-2 SLC) are currently tied for fifth in the league standings with Abilene Christian. Big Red enters the week having won two of its past three matches but is coming off a setback to Sam Houston Friday afternoon. The loss to the Bearkats is Big Red's lone home setback this season.
Stephen F. Austin comes to Beaumont as a vastly improved team from previous years. The Ladyjacks are 7-4 (.636) and currently seventh in the Southland standings with a 2-2 (.500) overall record. SFA enters the Monday afternoon showdown just a game back of LU.
The Cardinals own an 18-8 (.692) all-time record over SFA and have won three straight and five of the last seven in the series. That record includes a 10-2 (.833) mark against the Ladyjacks in Beaumont.
It marks the final time for LU fans to see the Cardinals' seniors this year, as LU will close the season with six road matches, including a non-conference contest at UL Lafayette Wednesday.
