BEAUMONT, Texas- The Lamar University women's tennis team (6-3, 3-1 Conf) will play their second home game in five days when they welcome Sam Houston State (7-2, 3-0 Conf) to the Family Thompson Tennis Center on Friday Mar. 11 at 1 PM.

Fresh off their 5-2 victory over border rivals McNeese on Monday, the Cardinals will look to continue their impressive form which sees them currently ride a 4-game unbeaten winning streak at home this season. Monday's victory over McNeese moved the Cardinals to 3-1 in conference play this season and places Big Red in joint fourth place in the Southland Conference standings. David Wong, who in his 22nd term as Head Coach at Lamar University, became the conferences second all-time winning coach in Southland Conference history.

The Cardinals will be met with stiff competition when the Bearcats travel from Hunstville. The Bearcats remain unbeaten in conference play this season, with their most recent victory coming against Abilene Christian 5-2 on Mar. 7. The Bearcats have shown impressive form in singles play this season and boast an impressive 31-9 record (.775). Their number one seeded player, junior Sahaja Yamalapalli, remains unbeaten in singles play on the season having not dropped a set in her seven contested matches and leads the conference singles standings. The Bearcats record in doubles play is equally as strong on the season (.619)

The two programs have met 30 times in their history with the Cardinals commanding an impressive 22-8 record, the last match against the Bearcats saw Big Red cruise to a 5-2 decision at the friendly confines of the Thompson Family Tennis Center in 2019.
