BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's softball team recently added a new pitcher to the squad for the upcoming 2022 season. Kelsey Pizarro made it official by signing a National Letter of Intent to play softball and continue her education Monday with the Cardinals.

Originally from Miami, Florida, the Rio Hondo, Texas native was a four-time letterwinner as pitcher for the Bobcats. Throughout her high school career, Pizarro posted a 3.80 ERA and struck out 132 batters. She also was a force at the plate batting .356 while leading Rio Hondo to three district championships.

As a freshman, Pizarro won both All-District Utility and Newcomer of the Year awards for her actions on the field. Twice was she named first team all-district as a pitcher and also received the honor as a shortstop following her sophomore season. Off the field, she was a member of the National Honor Society, and was ranked 16th in her class, and received an acknowledgment for college courses.
Pizarro is related to former Lamar University player Erik Pizarro. Erik finished up his eligibility this past season. She also has a sister named Sierra, who played tennis at East Texas Baptist University.
