Former Card Joins World U. XC Championships

LONDON, England - Qualifying as one of just six men on the British national team, Jamie Crowe will represent Great Britain and Lamar University at the 2020 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Cross Country Championships, held in Marrakech, Morocco, on March 7.

"This is a great accomplishment for Jamie! Whereas he was one of the greatest distance runners in Lamar University history, it's nice to see that we helped set him up for success beyond his time here in Beaumont," said head cross country coach Tony Houchin.

In order to qualify for the team, Crowe had to meet the following criteria:
  • Students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a Level 4 qualification (on the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or equivalent or above*  
  • Be a national of the country they represent (therefore hold a full 10 year UK passport) and be eligible to compete for Great Britain
  • Be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on 31 December of the year of the event (i.e. born between 01/01/1995 and 31/12/2002). 

*Students graduating in 2019 will be eligible to compete in 2020, as former students who have obtained their qualification in the calendar year preceding the event.

Women

Men

The relay will feature two (2) women and two (2) men compete in the following order: W,M,W,M. The first two athletes of each team will compete over two laps and the last two over one lap. It means the first woman and the first man will run approximately 4K and the other two will run approximately 2K each. Total distance 6 course laps, approximately 12K.

The relay will take place at 10:30 a.m. and be followed by the women's race at 11:30 a.m. and the men's race at 12:30 p.m.
