Cardinals Open SLC Play With Pair at Home

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Riding the wave of their longest win streak since the 2016-17 season, the Lamar University women's tennis team will open Southland Conference play Friday against Central Arkansas. The contest is part of a seven-match homestand that has seen the Red and White post a perfect record so far. The Cardinals will wrap up that homestand Sunday with a match against Northwestern State.

The Cardinals (6-2) haven't lost a match since their 6-1 decision at North Texas last month. Big Red has been dominant since that point outscoring opponents to the tune of 28-7 in the previous six matches. Even more impressive is the fact that LU hasn't had to rely on just a couple of players to get the job done but it has been a total team effort.

LU vs. Central Arkansas, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals will look to keep that successful run going Friday when they open conference play against the Bears. UCA (6-5) is riding a hot streak of its own. After losing three of their first four to start the year, the Bears have bounced back to win four straight and are coming off a 5-2 decision over Missouri State. UCA has been just as impressive as the Red and White outscoring opponents, 20-4, during its current streak.

LU vs Northwestern State, Mar. 1, at 11 a.m.
The Cardinals will return to the court less than 48 hours later to take on Northwestern State (7-3). In similar fashion to UCA, the Demons opened the year dropping three of their first five but have battled back and enter the weekend riding a five-match win streak. Northwestern State will be in Corpus Christi, Texas Friday to take on the Islanders before traveling to Beaumont. The match against the Demons will begin at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

Admission is free to all home matches.

Sunday's match against Northwestern State will wrap up the Cardinals' current homestand and kick off a three-match road swing to Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
