BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team will look to continue their impressive form Friday when they play the first of three matches in three days beginning Friday from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The Cardinals enter the week looking to continue their three-match win streak which began late last month at Dallas Baptist University.
LU vs Oral Roberts, Feb 14, at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals will open up the weekend's matches when they face off against the Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles are 3-4 (.429) for the season, having lost their previous two matches against Oklahoma and Abilene Christian. Fridays match up will only be the fifth time the two programs have met on the court with LU holding a 3-1 advantage in those contests. The last meeting saw the Red and White cruise to a 5-0 victory during the 2014 season. Friday's match will begin at 2 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
LU vs Prairie View A&M at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Cardinals will return to the Thompson Family Tennis Center Sunday when they host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader with the first match being played and 10 a.m. followed by the second at 2 p.m. The Panthers have struggled out of the gates this season and are currently 0-9. The Cardinals will look to emulate a similar result to last year which saw them record a perfect 7-0 victory over the Panthers. The Cardinals have dominated the all-time series over Prairie View posting a 14-0 all-time mark.
Last time out:
LU vs UL Monroe, W, 6-1
Playing in front of a large home crowd and to the backdrop of blue skies the Cardinals hit the ground running and jumped out to an early lead over the UL Monroe. The Cardinals maintained their stranglehold on the match up and cruised to a 6-1 victory. The win was the third straight for LU who is now a match over .500 (3-2) on the season.
Following this weekend's action, the Cardinals will open Southland Conference play when they host two home matches against Central Arkansas (Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.) and Northwestern State (Mar. 1 at 11 a.m.).
