BEAUMONT, Texas – Although Lamar University won't kick off the 2021 season two more months, the Cardinals announced a home-and-home series with Texas Southern for 2024 and 2025 seasons. The series will be just the sixth and seventh all-time meetings between the two schools, and the first since 1985.
"We're very excited to be announcing this home-and-home series with Texas Southern," said LU Director of Athletics
Marco Born. "Texas Southern is a quality opponent out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and this game will provide students and alumni from both schools the ability to support their teams on the road, as well as at home."
The Cardinals will host TSU Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, with LU making the return trip to Houston the following season (Sept. 13, 2025).
The 2024 season will mark the first time the two schools have met on the gridiron since the 1985 campaign, when the Cardinals walked away with a 32-20 victory in Beaumont. The Cardinals are 2-3 (.400) all-time in the series bookending the five games with victories. Big Red's first victory in the series came during the inaugural meeting (1980). The Cardinals recorded a 41-8 decision that season. The 1980 contest also marked the only meeting between the two in Houston.
Despite trailing in the all-time series, the Cardinals have outscored TSU, 111-84, in the five contests.
