Catchers
The Cardinals catching group is lead by veterans but the lineup will be highlighted by the potential of new talent.
Lamar expects to see a boost from behind the plate this season with the addition of
Hannah Carpenter, who transferred to Lamar after a stellar JUCO career at LSU-Eunice and helped led them to a NJCAA National Championship in 2019.
"Hannah brings a lot of positive energy to the program," stated head coach
Amy Hooks. "She knows how to win at a high level. She will be able to bring that experience to the program."
Carpenter gives the Cardinals depth at catcher with the return on redshirt freshman
Bethany Edwards. The Belton, Texas native, will look to add some power to the Cardinal lineup after redshirting last season.
The Cardinals will also see some new faces behind home with the addition of
Alicia Lopez (Pasadena, Texas) and
Felixia Hinojosa (Beeville, Texas). Lopez comes to Beaumont from Pasadena Memorial HS where she was All-District her junior and senior years while capturing a Golden Glove during her senior campaign.
"The catcher group we have this year is full of energy and they help push one another," said head coach
Amy Hooks. "Catching will be a strong aspect of our defense this season."
The Lady Cardinals are set to kick off their season at the Texas Classic on Feb. 7-8 in Austin, Texas. As the team gears up to spend the first two weeks on the road before coming home to host the Cardinal Classic on February 21-22.
