BEAUMONT, Texas – After the Lamar University women's tennis team battled through a rain-delayed season opener, they return to the court Saturday for two matches in a 24-hour stretch. The Cardinals continue their three-match road swing to open the season Saturday at North Texas in Denton. The Cardinals will be in Dallas Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. match against Dallas Baptist.
The Cardinals opened the season on the road last week at Rice but had their season opener pushed back 24 hours due to rain. Big Red put up a tough fight but came up just short against an Owls' squad that advanced to the NCAA Championships the season before.
The Mean Green enters the weekend showdown looking to continue their hot start. North Texas is 2-0 after season-opening wins over Southland foe Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico State. The Mean Green won their first two matches of the season by a combined 13-1 score.
The Patriots are also off to a quick start in 2020 having won three of their first four matches. DBU's three victories have come against Colorado Mesa, Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado College, with the lone setback coming against Metropolitan State. The Patriots outscored their opponents 17-4 in the three victories but got outscored 4-2 against the Roadrunners.
Sunday's match against the Patriots will be the Cardinals final match before the home opener Saturday, Feb. 1
st. The Cardinals will be host UT Rio Grande Valley in that contest.
