Cardinals Open 2020 in Houston

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will open the new season on the road in Houston Sunday when they travel to Rice. The match against the Owls will be one of three away from Beaumont to start the 2020 campaign for the Cardinals.

Big Red enters the new season looking to build from an 8-14 (.364) mark a year ago that saw the Cardinals advance to the Southland Conference Championship tournament with a 5-6 (.455) league record – a record that included three one-point losses in conference play. The Cardinals return a veteran lineup that consists of five starters from last year's squad.

The Cardinals' 2020 roster consists of three seniors (Jasmin Buchta, Sanja Jolica and Bianca Vitale), two juniors (Natalia Garcia Molina and Dominique Leh), a sophomore (Laura Sola Grau) and three freshmen (Ana Jolic, Denise Simonetti, Jayci Wong).

The Owls enter the new season coming off a 16-8 campaign (.667) that saw them advance to the NCAA Championships. Rice opened the NCAA's against No. 18 Texas A&M and put up a strong fight before falling by one, 4-3.

The match - which was originally schedule for Saturday - was moved to Sunday due to the threat of rain. It will serve as the season opener for both schools. It is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
