Big Red Hits the Road to Face Houston

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball team opens a nine-game road trip on Wednesday, April 3 when they travel to Houston to face the University of Houston in non-conference action. First-pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Cougar Softball Stadium.

Houston enters the contest with Lamar coming off a 3-0 loss to South Florida on March 31. The Cougars were swept by the Bulls in a three-game American Conference series. The last win for Houston came on March 27 when they defeated McNeese, 3-2 in nine innings.

At the plate, Houston is led by Lindsey Stewart, who leads the team with a .385 batting average. Stewart entered the week with the second-best batting average in the American. The Cougars have two players with 20 or more RBIs on the season led by Stewart with 24 RBIs. Houston has six players with two home runs on the season. The Cougars have three players batting over .300 on the season.
 
In the circle, Savannah Heebner leads the team with 100.2 innings pitched on the season. Opponents are hitting .211 off her. She leads the team with eight wins on the season and has an ERA of 1.88. Four different Cougars have a win. Presley Bell has a team best 1.17 ERA in 59.2 innings pitched.

LAST TIME OUT: CENTRAL ARKANSAS (March 29-30)
The last time LU took the field was for a three game SLC set against Central Arkansas. In the first game of the series, the Bears came outhit the Cardinals 10-8. The Bears defeated the Cards, 8-5, as they scored eight runs in the fourth and fifth inning and held of a comeback by LU.

Pitching led the way in the second game of the series as pitching limited both teams at the plate over the first seven innings of the games. Lamar and Central Arkansas went scoreless into the to ninth inning. After the Bears scored one, LU scored two in the bottom of the frame, capped by a Kimberly Mattox walk-off RBI single. LU took game two, 2-1.

Lamar took the series in game three as a single by Savana Guidry plated the lone run in the game. Julia Voluntad limited the Bears to four hits over the contest in the complete game shutout. LU took the third game of the series, 1-0.

What's Next
Following the contest against the Cougars, LU travels to Nacogdochese, Texas to a three-game set with SLC foe Stephen F. Austin. The Cards and Ladyjacks will play a doubleheader Friday, April 5 starting at 1 p.m.
