BEAUMONT, Texas - Continuing to move up the junior college class rankings after receiving the 22nd spot earlier this year, Lamar University's incoming class of baseball junior college transfers looks to make an impact in 2020. The class is now ranked 14th in the nation by the Junior College Baseball Blog with Zach Bravo, Braxton Douthit, Max Mize, Zach Sweet, Christian Grigsby, and Trevin Michael all signed with Big Red.
"We only have six seniors this year so we wanted the few guys that we did sign to be guys that could come in and make an impact right away," said head coach
Will Davis. "We certainly feel that we have done that with the six junior college players heading here next year, and I think this ranking backs that up."
Lamar is now the only Southland Conference school ranked in the Top 25 by the JBB and is currently ahead of Oklahoma State, Indiana, Campbell, Louisiana Tech, Lipscomb, Wichita State, North Florida, and South Carolina. The Cardinals are now also the only baseball program in the state of Texas ranked by the JBB. Mississippi State leads the rankings with five signees, including three ranked in the Top 250 nationally, and fellow SEC program Kentucky trails just behind with five signees, including a Top 50 player and a Top 250. Arizona State, Liberty, and Kansas State round out the Top 5 followed by West Georgia, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Arkansas State, Illinois, Washington State, Hawaii, and Wright State. Lamar comes in at #14.
LU returns to action on Friday with the first of three games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
