BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University was originally supposed to have this weekend off to prepare for their final two home matches of the season, but due to a match getting postponed earlier this season, the Cardinals will travel to Natchitoches, La. Friday to take on Northwestern State. The match against the Demons will take place Friday at 11 a.m. from the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.
The Cardinals (4-10/1-3 SLC) are looking to right the ship and get back in the win column after dropping three of their past four matches and coming off a 5-2 loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The lone victory during that stretch was a thrilling 4-3 decision over rival McNeese.
LU heads into the match currently in a two-way tie for ninth (New Orleans) in the conference standings, but just a half game back of Southeastern Louisiana for the eight and final playoff spot in the Southland Conference Championships.
The road has not been kind to the Red and White in 2019. The Cards are 0-7 away from Beaumont on the season and will be traveling to arguably the toughest place to play in the Southland. Northwestern State (10-2/4-0 SLC) has been nearly unstoppable at home over the course of the past few years and enters Friday with a perfect 7-0 record at their home facility this year.
Northwestern State is currently tied for first in the league standings (Abilene Christian), a half game up on Sam Houston State. The Demons enter the week riding a four-game win streak, and 10 of their last 11 matches. Northwestern State last faced defeat Feb. 22
nd when they traveled to North Texas.
Following Friday's match, the Cardinals will have a week to prepare for Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. Those two matches will serve as the team's final two home matches of the 2019 regular season.
