Cardinals Open Southland Play

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will be on the road for the next two matches to begin Southland Conference play with dates at Central Arkansas and Northwestern State. Big Red's Southland opener will be Friday against Central Arkansas followed by a Sunday match against the Demons.

The Cardinals (3-7) head north coming off a sweep of Prairie View A&M but those matches were nine days ago. LU was dominant in its sweep of the doubleheaders surrendering just one point in the two contests – the lone point was scored in a three-set match. The Cards will step on the court looking for their first three-match win streak of the season.

UCA opens league play just over the .500 mark on the season (6-5). The Bears have won three of their past four outings and are coming off a 6-1 victory over Missouri State less than a week ago. The match against the Bears is slated to being at noon on the UCA campus.

Following the match, the Cardinals will make the long journey south for a match at Northwestern State less than 48 hours later. The Demons are off to a great start on the young season posting a 6-2 overall record entering conference play. Northwestern State's six victories have been bookended by two losses. The Demons opened the year with a setback at Tulane and are coming off a 4-0 loss at North Texas. The Demons will host A&M-Corpus Christi before facing LU. The match against Northwestern State is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
