BEAUMONT, Texas – Playing in its last regular season tournament, the Lamar University Cardinals travel to College Station, Texas to participate in the Texas A&M Invite this Friday through Sunday. The Cards will play five games over the three days.

Longwood
The Lancers enters the Texas A&M Invite with an 8-3 record on the season. Longwood is coming off a weekend where they went 3-1 at the UNCG Invitational on Feb. 24-25. Closing out the UNCG Invite, the Lancers split a doubleheader with UNCG. The Lancers dropped game one, 4-3 but rebounded for a win in game two, 2-0. Chelsea Whitcomb leads the Lancers at the plate as she is hitting .407 on the season. Jenna Dunn leads the team with 10 RBIs on the season. As a team, the Lancers are hitting .282. In the circle, Longwood has two pitchers with ERAs under 2.00 and over 30 innings pitched. Sydney Gay leads the team with 33.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 1.46. The Aggies are hosting its third tournament of the season with the Texas A&M Invite. Texas A&M is coming off a 9-3 loss to Houston. The Aggies are currently on a three-game losing streak and have a record of 9-6 on the season. They are 8-3 when playing at Davis Diamond. This season, the Aggies have five players hitting over .300. They are led by Riley Sartain who is hitting .421 with five home runs and 12 RBIs. Kelbi Fortenberry is second on the team hitting .419 and has driven in 11 runs. As a team, the Aggies are hitting .317 with 13 home runs on the season. They are a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen bases. In the circle, Texas A&M is led by Payton McBride who has pitched 48 innings on the season and has an ERA of 2.04. She has made 11 appearances making seven starts. She is a perfect 6-0 on the season. As a staff, the Aggies have an ERA of 3.39 and opponents are hitting .254.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
The Islanders will play the Cards once at the Texas A&M Invite. LU and A&M-Corpus Christi will meet later this season in Southland Conference action. The Islanders have a record of 2-14 entering the Invite. Last weekend, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hosted the Islander Invitational and went 1-4 during the tournament. Its lone win came on Friday against Texas Southern, when they won 2-1. Keagan Helson leads the team at the plate as she is hitting .276. Kennedy Johnson follows with a batting average of .250 on the season. Johnson leads the team with seven RBIs on the season. In the circle, Kandace Johnson leads the team with a 3.16 ERA. As a team, the Islanders have an ERA of 6.57 and opponents are hitting .323 against Islanders pitching.

What's Next
Following the Texas A&M Invite, the Cardinals return to the LU Softball Complex when they host Abilene Christian in Southland Conference action. The Cards and Wildcats will play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader on Friday March 8 is set for 4 p.m. This will be the opening weekend of SLC play.
