Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BEAUMONT, Texas – Playing in front of its home fans for the first time in three weeks, and just the second time all season, the Lamar University women's tennis team swept a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M Wednesday afternoon at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex (the matches were moved to a new venue due to the threat of rain in the area). The Cardinals recorded a 6-1 victory in the first match and came right back with a 7-0 decision in the second.
 
The Cardinals surrendered just one point on the afternoon to PVAMU and allowed only one match to get to a third set. LU surrendered just one game in 10 sets and posted five shutout sets in the two wins. The Cards were pushed to a tiebreak in just one set.
 
"I thought we played very well today," said LU head coach David Wong. "I could tell very early on that we were in the right from of mind and focused on nothing other than Prairie View. I'm very pleased with how we got some early leads and never allowed PVAMU back in the match."
 
Big Red dominated the opening contest taking all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead. The Red and White surrendered just five games in the three matches. The Cardinals grabbed the first three singles matches in straight sets to quickly record the overall team victory. In fact, LU won all five of its singles matches in straight sets and had a chance for the shutout taking the early lead on court No. 4, but Prairie View A&M battled back to win the No. 4 spot for their lone point of the match.
 
Big Red was even more dominant in the second half of the doubleheader. After winning the doubles point, the Red and White turned the Panthers away at every spot in the lineup.
 
The Cardinals return to action Friday, Mar. 1 when they travel to Conway, Ark., to open Southland Conference play against Central Arkansas. The match is slated to begin at noon.
