Crumps' Career-High Leads Cards Past Lady Lions

BEAUMONT, Texas – Miya Crump scored a career-high 31 points as Lamar University won its 37th straight game at the Montagne Center on Wednesday night. The Cards defeated the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana, 94-54.

With the win, LU improves to 12-4 on the season and 5-0 in Southland Conference action. The win is the Cardinals seventh straight. The loss drops SLU to 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in SLC play.

"Our kids came out strong and we played a complete 40 minutes of Lamar basketball tonight against a solid SLC opponent," remarked Head Coach Robin Harmony. "SLU was coming off a big win over Abilene Christian and our defense pressured them and did not give them open shots. We played the game we were looking to play."

For the first time since, Nov. 23rd, a Cardinal scored 30 or more points and hits six or more threes in the contest as Crump led the Cardinals with 31 points and was 6-for-7 shooting from behind the arc. Jadyn Pimentel followed with 21 points.

For the third straight contest, Chastadie Barrs recorded a triple-double. Against the Lady Lions, she had 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for her ninth career triple-double, which extends the SLC career triple-double record.

The Cards wasted little time pulling away from Southeastern Louisiana. Over the first five minutes of the game, Lamar opened with a 16-0 run. Crump led the way during the run with seven points. LU did not let the Lady Lions pull the game within double-figures the rest of the way. After the first quarter of play, Lamar led 23-9. Big Red shot 54 percent in the first quarter.

Crump's shooting remained hot in the second quarter as she scored five of the first six points in the quarter for LU. After a Crump layup, LU had a 20-point lead, 30-10. After a layup by Celica Sterling, the Cards lead was down to 17, 31-14, with 4:10 left in the half. Lamar answered by scoring the next four points, extending its lead back to 21 points, 35-14, after a jumper by Briana Laidler. LU took a 40-19 lead into halftime.

Over the first five minutes of the third quarter, LU stretched its lead to 29, 52-23, after an 8-0 run that was capped by a Barrs layup. The Cardinals continued to limit the Lady Lions chances and stretched the lead to 35 points, 62-30, after a free throw by Angel Hastings. After three quarters of play, LU held a commanding lead of 66-34.

With 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Barrs was still looking for her ninth career triple-double, which she would get in the fourth quarter. Midway through the quarter, Barrs picked up her final rebound for the triple-double, her fifth triple-double of the season.

Lamar stretched the lead to 43 points, 86-43, after a Crump three-pointer. This was the largest lead of the game for LU. Lamar came away with a 94-54 victory. This is the fifth straight opponent the Cardinals have held under 60 points.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face Incarnate Word. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. from the McDermott Center.
