Box Score NATCHITOCHES, La. – Lamar University women's tennis team was unable to carry over its momentum from Saturday's conference opening win falling at Northwestern State, 7-0, Sunday morning. It was a tough stretch for the Cardinals who opened league play less than 24 hours earlier, while the Demons had 48 hours to prepare for LU.
"It was a tough outing for us today," said LU head coach
David Wong. "Anytime you expend as much energy and emotion as we did yesterday to defeat Stephen F. Austin, it is very hard to come back and play the next day. We just didn't have much left in the tank. I felt like our ladies fought as hard as the possibly could given the situation."
The Demons jumped out to 1-0 lead after taking victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. The Demons then turned to the bottom half of the lineup to extend their advantage taking wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Leading by three, Northwestern State needed only one of the final four singles matches for the overall win. The match clinching victory would come from the top of their order as NSU picked up wins on courts 2 and 1, respectively.
Northwestern State closed out the match with wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
The Cardinals will look to bounce back Saturday when they return home to host Abilene Christian in the conference home opener. The match against the Wildcats will begin at 2 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
