LU Preps for Doubleheader Versus Panthers

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team is set to return to action Tuesday following an extended break due to the weather. The Cardinals (0-2) had scheduled nearly a three-week time of preparation for their next matches after opening the season against a tough Rice and Houston squad. That break was extended due to weather as the Cardinals were forced to cancel their home opener against Alcorn State.

LU's focus now turns to Prairie View A&M and looking for its first win of the season. A very young squad, the Cardinals put up a tough fight in both of its opening matches but came up short against two very strong teams.

The Panthers are 0-7 on the season with two of their losses coming to Southland Conference foes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Sam Houston State, but the Panthers are coming off a 7-0 loss at TCU last time out.

Prairie View A&M has had its own issues with Mother Nature this season. The Panthers have already had two matches postponed and a third canceled this season, with all three coming just prior to the TCU match.

Adding a little more pressure for Prairie View is the fact that Tuesday's match will be played in Beaumont and the road hasn't not been kind to the Panthers. PVAMU is 0-5 on the road this season and 0-16 in away matches dating back to last season.

The first match of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the second half of the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.

The Cardinals will return action Saturday when they play host to UT Rio Grande Valley. The match against Vaqueros will be a 3 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
