Cards' JuCo Newcomers Nationally Ranked

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University had yet another honor bestowed upon its incoming 2019 class Friday with the release of Perfect Game's Impact Junior College Transfers list. The Cardinals had two JuCo players, infielder J.C. Correa and pitcher Luke Baley, named on the list, the most of any Southland Conference school.

Only three SLC programs joined Lamar on the Impact JuCo list - Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, and New Orleans - with one newcomer for each program finding his name on the list. Lamar's haul was also notable among the NCAA Division I baseball teams in the state of Texas; only TCU's seven and Dallas Baptist's three surpassed the Cardinal total and Houston and Texas Tech tied with Big Red. LU surpassed the recruiting hauls of Texas A&M, Baylor, UT - Arlington, UTSA, and Texas State.

Correa comes to Lamar already lauded as the younger brother of Houston Astros phenom Carlos Correa. JC hit .364 / .432 / .491 in 80 career games at Alvin Community College, totaling 103 hits with three home runs and 59 RBIs. More information about JC Correa can be found here, and his Perfect Game profile is located here.

Baley is a transfer from Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. He appeared in 18 contests across two seasons with the Rebels, striking out 47 batters in just 34.2 innings of work. His Perfect Game profile is linked here.

The PG JuCo list follows a long line of notable pre-season news for Lamar University's baseball program. Head coach Will Davis raked in his third consecutive Top 100 recruiting class in as many seasons, and the incoming freshman class was also nationally ranked by Perfect Game on Thursday. Not to be outshined, returnee Rhett McCall was named the MVP of the Texas Collegiate League, and a combo of 10 incoming and returning Cardinals took home Summer League All-Star awards.

The 2019 season begins Feb. 15 with the first of a three-game series against LIU-Brooklyn in the friendly confines of Vincent-Beck Stadium. A detailed breakdown of the upcoming 2019 season can be found here, along with the online version of the schedule, a printable version, and a downloadable 2019 schedule pennant.

Season and individual game tickets will go on sale at a later date. Fans should stay tuned to LamarCardinals.com for more baseball news.
