BEAUMONT, Texas – After having the weather force Lamar University to cancel and reschedule its Southland match up against Northwestern State last Sunday, the Cardinals return to the court Saturday for its first conference road match. The Cardinals will travel to Abilene, Texas Saturday to take on Abilene Christian. Following the contest, the Cardinals will turn around and make the tough haul back to Beaumont to host Cleveland State two days later.
The Cardinals enter the week rolling having won four straight since their setback at North Texas in January. LU has been impressive during its streak outscoring opponents by a combined score of 21-4.
Big Red (5-2/.714) will look to keep its winning ways going Saturday when they step on the court against Abilene Christian. The Wildcats have also started strong in 2017 entering the week with an 8-4 (.667) overall record, but 0-1 in Southland play. The Wildcats have won six of their last seven outings, and are coming off a 6-1 victory over New Mexico State. The lone loss during that stretch was a one-point setback at Central Arkansas less than a week ago.
The Cardinals lead the all-time series against Abilene Christian, 4-2, but enter the weekend match looking to bounce back from a one-point loss at home last year.
Saturday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Eager Tennis Center on the ACU Campus.
The Cardinals return home 48 hours later to host Cleveland State. The Vikings have had a rollercoaster of a year to this point posting a 5-7 (.417) record, but have won their past two matches. Prior to CSU's two wins it had dropped three straight. Those three losses were preceded by three wins and then four losses.
LU is 1-0 all-time against the Vikings. That lone meeting came during the 2011 season when the Red and White posted a 5-2 victory in Beaumont.
Monday's match is slated to begin at noon from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
