CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team's shot at bringing home a winning record from its recent three-match road swing came up just short. The Cardinals (8-7/3-4 Southland) lost a tough match to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 7-0, Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The doubles point, which has been a rollercoaster ride for the Cardinals so far in 2016, took a downward turn Saturday against the league-leading A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. The Islanders (15-0/6-0 SLC) picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively, to take the first point of the match.

Sophomore Andrea Ivanovic locked her opponent in a dual that went down to the wire. Both sets ended by the same score and both were taken to a tiebreaker. In the end, Ivanovic came up short to Jelena Dzinic, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3).

The match was decided by the bottom of the Islanders' order as the hosts took wins at Nos. 5, 4 and 6 singles, respectively to wrap up the team win. Corpus closed out the day with straight-set wins at the top three singles positions.

The Cardinals close out the month of March Wednesday when they return home to host Sam Houston State in a Southland Conference contest. The Bearkats started the day 7-7 (.500) on the season, but 10^th in the conference standings with a 2-4 mark -- a match back of Big Red in the win column. The match against SHSU will begin at 2 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Admission to all LU home tennis matches is free.

LU will be back on the road two days later as they travel to Waco, Texas to take on No. 66 Baylor. The match against the Lady Bears (7-11) will begin at 10 a.m. from the Hurd Tennis Center.
