BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team (0-1) steps on the court for the first time in more than a week to host a doubleheader against Tyler Junior College. The first match is slated to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the second at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinals opened the season on Jan. 23, but dropped a 7-0 decision to the Rice Owls. A perennial powerhouse, TJC travels to Beaumont in a similar situation. The Apaches are 0-1 after dropping their season opener at Stephen F. Austin, 4-2.
The Red and White opens the match looking to reverse a trend at home from last season. LU went 3-6 in the Thompson Family Tennis in 2015, and is 3-7 (.300) in its last 10 matches. Although the Cardinals return several players from last season, LU is a very young team. The Cardinals' roster boasts of four juniors, three sophomores, one freshman and no seniors.
Saturday's meeting against the Apaches will be the first since the 2011 season when LU posted a three-point decision, 5-2.
