BEAUMONT, Texas – Following Monday night's victory to earn career-win No. 200, LU head coach
Tic Price stated that the team's goal to start the day was not recording win No. 200, but earning win number one on Monday – nothing else mattered. With that being said, the Cardinals will look to go 1-0 again Wednesday when it hosts Arlington Baptist in the second game of a three-game homestand.
Big Red (6-5) is not only looking for a 1-0 record on Wednesday, but looking to move two games above .500 on the season with just one more non-conference game remaining on the schedule. A victory Wednesday would also give the Cards consecutive wins for the third time this season, and the first since late November.
Winners in two of their last three, the Cardinals offense has caught fire lately. In addition to shooting nearly 63 percent from the field in their victory over Liberty Monday, the Cards finished the night with five players in double digits. It is the third consecutive game the Cardinals have had five players in double-figures. The last time that happened for the Cardinals was the 2008-09 season.
Sophomore
Nick Garth led the way with 22 points on a career-best 7-of-8 (.875) from three-point land. Garth was a perfect 6-for-6 on three-pointers in the second half helping the Cardinals pull away from Liberty.
Junior
Torey Noel got the offensive onslaught started when he knocked down the team's first three shots to start the game – all threes – and ended the night 3-of-4 (.750) from beyond the arc with 11 points to his credit. Classmate
Joey Frenchwood recorded his first career double with 10 points and 12 assists (the eighth-best single-game assist total in program history).
Despite LU's success on offense against the Flames, the defense might have been even more impressive. LU forced Liberty into 12 turnovers which they converted into 21 points. The Cardinals also turned the ball over 12 times but allowed their guest to score just six points off the mistakes.
Arlington Baptist heads to Beaumont for the first time in program history looking to move back above the .500 mark on the season. The Patriots are 6-6 (.500) on the year after dropping a 103-77 decision to Southland foe Houston Baptist.
The Patriots shot better than 50 percent from the field in the game, which included six three-pointers, but the majority of their damage came in the opening half. ABC knocked down 18-of-26 (.692) first-half shots, including 4-of-6 (.667) attempts from beyond the arc, to head into the locker room down just three points.
The Patriots finished the night with three players in double figures led by 27 from Cedric Carson. Teammate Kel Wallace chipped in 12, while Markel Semien added 11.
Wednesday's game will tip off at 7 p.m. from the Montagne Center, and can be heard live on Newstalk 560 KLVI. It will be the team's final game before taking a couple days off for the Christmas holiday.
