Track claims 14 top 10 finishes

April 26, 2015

HOUSTON - Led by Jan Lukas Beckers' second place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, the Lamar track and field teams finished the 12th Annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight, hosted by Rice, with 14 top 10 finishes.

The event was Lamar's final event before the Southland Conference Championships.

Becker was the runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase on 9:13.47 mark, and was the top collegiate finisher. He finished six seconds behind Henry Lelei.

Verity Ockenden finished third on a 2:10.50 mark in the 800-meter run, and Brendan Langley was third in the 100-meter dash on a mark of 10.81 time. Ockenden's time fell just short of her season-best and conference leading time of 2:10.04.

Alexandra Sokolova finished a few spots back of Ockenden in sixth with a time of 2:12.77, her career best and sixth place in the Southland Conference.

Erin Brown took fourth in the women's long jump with an 18' 7.0'' mark, which was the best she's ever jumped in an outdoor season. Carissa Hill finished right behind her in fifth on a jump of 18' 6.50''-was her season best.

Both the men's and women's teams had a couple of fifth place finishers in the 1500-meter run. Matt Jackson put up a time of 3:51.86 and Webb a mark of 4:31.40 in her first 1500 event this season.

Evelyn Chavez finished sixth in the women's 1500m with a 4:31.76 time, her career best by 10 seconds. Both Webb and Chavez's times rank third and fourth in the league. Chanissey Fowler grabbed sixth place in the women's 100-meter dash on her season-best 12.04 seconds. She barely beat her previous best of 12.06 ticks.

Belinda Aguilar placed eight in the 5000-meter run on an 18:36 time, the first 5000m event for her this season. Aaron Bennett placed ninth in the men's 800-meter run on his season-best 1:52.76 mark along with Nicole Alozie's ninth place 17' 8.25'' long jump.
