WALNUT, Calif. - Both Jan Lukas Becker and Alex Dunbar claimed top times in the Southland Conference in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000-meter run, respectively, at the Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College.
Becker put up a mark of 9:08.54 and finished just under six seconds faster than the previous high in the league from Sam Houston's Evan Arambula. It was the freshman's first time in the event and only his second meet to compete in.
Tate Schienbien of Purdue finished first in his section a time of 8:53.11.
Dunbar took the top spot in the 10k after a 30:31.58 time, which also took fifth place in the Lamar record books. In his first event run, he took the top spot from Central Arkansas' Jonathan Burgess on a time of 30:57.50.
Luke Baker of Georgia was first in his section on a time of 29:36.95.
Becker was 13th in his event, and Dunbar was 22nd.
Seniors Sam Stabler and Matt Jackson will compete in the 1500-meter run on Friday along with Federico Gasbarri. Verity Ockenden and Minttu Hukka are running in the women's 1500m, and Louise Webb will compete in the women's 3000-meter steeple chase.
