ABILENE - Katya Lapayeva continues her hot streak through league action, but Abilene Christian was able to prevail with a doubles point and four singles wins in a 5-2 victory over the Lamar women's tennis team at the Eager Tennis Pavilion on Sunday in Southland Conference action.
The Lady Cardinals fell to 9-10 on the season and 3-5 in Southland Conference action, heading into the match LU held the eight spot in the league standings. ACU moved to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Lapayeva pushed her singles win streak to four with a 7-5, 6-4, 10-5 win over Brittney Reed on line one. She improved her season record to 9-10, and is 7-9 from the first position.
Andrea Ivanovic won her second straight singles match after a 6-4, 6-2 win against Kaysie Hermsdorf. Her win was on No. 3 and made her 9-10 overall in singles action.
Erin Walker downed Anna Spengler 6-1, 6-4 from the second position, and Whitney Williams got by Carolina Maso in a tight 6-2, 7-6 win on court four. Hanna Elfving lost to Lucile Pothier 6-2, 6-2 on No. 5 and Nada Marjanovic won on line six against Stephanie Marchena, 7-6, 6-3.
The Wildcats claimed the doubles point win on lines one and two, court three went unfinished.
The Lady Cardinals return to the Thompson Family Tennis Center in the next match to face Northwestern State on Saturday at 11 o'clock, and wrap up the season with Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at noon.
